2018 Rockfish Junior Sprint Season Wrap-Up
Before the season started Daddy was gone and Mr. Bill helped me get a car so I could race. Daddy also had to get Siobhan’s car done when he got home. We didn’t have cars because Rockfish Speedway stopped racing the Go-Kart division which is the class I used to race in. During the off season Rockfish Speedway changed to the junior sprints division for kids to race in. I think the junior sprints are a way better class because they are safer. It’s a 270 micro sprint chassis which is a real racing chassis. The class is also more affordable because of the engine that we run on our race cars. Our track runs the Predator 212 engine for the junior sprint class. Lastly the junior Sprints are more competitive because of our stock rules that we run at our track.
In the beginning of the season it went pretty well, I won the first ever junior sprint race in Rockfish Speedway. Siobhan got in fifth place on her first ever race which is very impressive. My car ran awesome on the first ever race. It was so much more fun than the Go-Karts and it felt so much better. On the first race Siobhan’s car ran pretty well too.
Honestly things were still going pretty good, our cars were still running so that’s good. I was getting third place for the longest time. Sometimes I would get 2nd sometimes I would get 4th place or even 5th place but I learned from my mistakes and I would fix them. As for Siobhan, she got a new car and was getting better at racing. She was getting more confident and was getting used to her car and she was starting to go faster.
After summer break the first race was the “Short Track Shootout” and it was the first time Siobhan passed me. I obviously was mad, very mad, but still with the tiniest bit I was proud of her. Our cars, well Siobhan’s car was definitely faster than mine but I was still the better driver of the 2 of us.
At the Prelude to the Winter Classic race I came in 3rd place and Siobhan came in 4th place right behind me. It was amazing to be able to be a part of the prelude race and I am so grateful that they picked the junior sprints to be in it. It was also really cool to be there with the Mod-Lite club that’s a really cool opportunity.
In points we both finished in a good place. For Siobhan, she finished in 5th or 6th place. For me I got 2nd place overall. In all honesty this was the most fun I had in a division ever. I am so glad they changed the class.
Some people we would like to thank for their support:
Mr. Bill, the Beasely’s, Mr. Dan, the people in our family that helped out and supported us, B&L Auto in Vass, NC, and Carling Engineering also in Vass, NC. We would also like to thank everyone for following us here, on youtube, or by coming to the track and watching the races.
See everyone next season.
